## Winning With Systems

The more numbers you play in a system, the more chances you have to win, as you will enter more lines into the draw. You also have the chance of winning multiple prizes, as each line is generated from the same range of numbers.

For example, if you played a 7+1 system and one of your lines matched all six main numbers and the Viking number drawn, your six other lines would also win a prize in a lower tier, as shown below:

Numbers Played in System Winning Vikinglotto Numbers Drawn
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 + Viking 8 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 + Viking 8

If you play a 10+2 system and one line matches all six numbers plus the Viking number, 389 of your other lines would also win a prize. The following tables show how many of your lines would win when playing some of the most common systems.

### How to Play

Vikinglotto players are required to choose six numbers between 1 and 48 and a Viking number between 1 and 8. Participants can either select their own numbers or opt for a Quick Pick, where a random set of numbers will be automatically generated.

To win the jackpot, players must match all six main numbers and the Viking number. The jackpot starts at a minimum of €3 million, and if it is not won, it rolls over to the following draw. Once the jackpot hits its cap of €35 million, additional prize money is added to the prize tier below it, which is won by matching all six main numbers without the Viking number.

The top two prize tiers are shared between all the participating countries, but the rest of the prizes are set individually by each nation. A percentage of the revenue from each ticket sale contributes to the shared prize fund, and any leftover money is distributed among the remaining prize tiers in each country.

The following table shows the different prize tiers and the odds of winning in each category.

Prize tiers differ in each participating nation, and not all countries offer all of the prize tiers listed above.

A number of supplementary games are also available in different countries, such as various ‘Joker’ games, in which players must match up to seven numbers in the exact order they are drawn.

An additional game called the Joker can be played alongside Finland’s Lotto. To play, choose seven numbers between 0 and 9. You can pick the same number more than once. On the night of a draw, a seven-digit Joker number is randomly generated, and you win prizes when you match the same digits in the same place.

For example, if the Joker number generated is 1291268, the number 1234567 would win because it matches three digits in the same place: 12***6*. The more numbers you match, the bigger the prize.

The cost of playing Joker is €2, and you can also play Double Joker for an extra €1. The Double Joker game is played in the same way, except that when the last digit of the Joker number is matched, any prizes you win are doubled.

Joker prizes are fixed amounts. The value of the jackpot is set by lottery providers Veikkaus before the draw and although it is usually set at €1 million (€2 million for Double Joker) it can change from draw to draw.

## Prizes

Some of the Lotto prizes are fixed amounts and some are calculated on a pari-mutuel basis, which means they depend on how many tickets are sold and how many winners there are in each tier. The prize tiers for matching five and six numbers, or six numbers plus the bonus, each receive a set percentage of the total prize fund. The remaining money is then used to pay out the fixed-value prizes, including the jackpot.

The value of the jackpot is determined by lottery provider Veikkaus before the draw. If it is not won in a given draw, it will roll over to the next one and will continue to do so until someone wins it.
